The Impact of Covid-19 on Blind People

Blind SA wishes to advise blind persons and those individuals who are a sighted guide for a blind person to avoid sneezing in the crook of the elbow as advised by the authorities since blind people hold onto the sighted guide by holding on their elbow. We recommend that blind persons and sighted guides rather sneeze into a tissue which is disposable. We encourage these persons to regularly wash their hands and use hand sanitizer. Similarly, blind people read in braille using their fingers to touch the braille dots.

These publications are shared with other readers. We again encourage them to wash their hands and use hand sanitizer regularly.

The National Institute of Occupational Health has published an information leaflet and has transcribed this into braille. Blind SA is distributing the braille leaflets as well as the daisy version and in accessible format word. This is available on Blind SA’s website www.blindsa.org.za, Facebook Blind SA, Twitter and from the Blind SA Offices 011 839 1793.
